Mark did a very sweet thing a week after little bun was born. He made me this card and I was so moved. It still brings tears to my eyes everytime I look at the card. Somehow gives me comfort in knowing that our Angels will forever be a part of our lives, and little bun's too. They may not be physically here with us, but they live forever in our hearts. It's also nice to think that they are watching over little bun.
I hope that one day when little bun is old enough, I'd be able to tell him about his angel siblings and why his daddy and mummy have got matching tattoos on their backs. I also hope for little bun to know that it is partly because of them that made it possible for him to be here with us today.

My Darling Angels,
I miss you so much, I love you so much, and my heart still aches and pines for you.
Love,
Mummy

I spent some time last evening sorting through and organizing Lucas and Chloe's 'Treasure Chests'. My intention was really to put their birthday cards back into their respective chest, which is long overdue. Chloe's card has been lying on my desk since October, and Lucas' since December. Frankly, opening the Treasure Chests is something that I try to avoid/ delay subconsciously because looking at all the contents of each individual chest makes my heart very heavy. Every single item in the chests brings back so much memories, both happy and/ or sad. It's now been two-and-a-half years since we lost Lucas, and one-and-a-half years since we lost Chloe, but the memories of the short time they spent with us remain so vivid.

Christmas 2010
I bought this pair of tealight holders for Lucas and Chloe as their gifts for Christmas 2010. I knew that I wanted them from the moment I saw them because of what's written. Lucas and Chloe both gave me hope and immense joy at some stage of my life, and this is what I wish for them and for myself in the new year ahead.

Their gifts from Christmas 2009 (Christmas stockings) together with Christmas 2010's...

Since we had a number of friends who came over to our place, I made an effort to do some light decorations to the house to make it look more 'Christmassy'... I vetoed Mark's suggestion to get a Christmas tree because I prefer the real ones to the artificial ones (ooohh.. I love the smell of a real Christmas tree!!), but I didn't want the hassle of cleaning up after it and I think they don't come cheap.

Pressie for my Babies... --- Part I

In hindsight, I should have bought a 'spare set' to bring around with me so that I can laways look at them, and keep the other set in their respective Treasure Chest.
I hope my Angels like their bunnies...

Treasure Chests -- Part II
This is a LONG overdue instalment of my Angel's Treasure Chests... Not that I have sat on the project for that long, but the delay was because I didn't have a card reader to export the photos from the camera to my computer. Finally with Mark's help, he downloaded them for me yesterday.
I will share the contents of each chest in the next 2 days cos I am still sorting the photos out.
While it was still in the making...

Daddy Dreamt of his Angels...
This morning, Mark told me that he dreamt of Lucas and Chloe, however he cannot recall any details as to what the dream was about. Basically he can only remember that he dreamt of them... I am sooooo jealous and envious cos I never dream of them, ever. The only kind of dreams that seem to plague me are nightmares. I am either running away from something/ someone, trying to hide from the something/ someone or falling into some never ending abyss. Kinda pathetic huh...
I wonder when will be my turn to dream of my Angels...

Do You Believe in Guardian Angels?
This is one long overdue post that I had been meaning to write about but had been sitting on it cos it is a rather long story.
Encounter 1
Mark took me on a cruise vacation in July 2009, hoping to help me relax and take my mind off things. On the day that we boarded the boat, we had an encounter that I have not shared with anyone until this day.
Right before going on the trip, I finished reading a book on ‘Angels’… It is called ‘Signs from Above’ by Doreen Virtue. The author said that each of us have at least 1 or 2 guardian angels by our side since the moment we are born. All we need is to learn to ask for their help… and if we are doubtful of their existence, we can ask them for a sign (or two) to show that they indeed exist. I shared this with Mark and we playfully asked for a ‘sign’ from our guardian angels… both of us are always cynical about anything that is spiritual/ supernatural… basically we like to only believe in tangible things that we can see.
We boarded the boat and immediately went to the cabin to leave our baggage… then we walked around to check out all the other facilities and outlets (even though we have been on the same boat before and nothing much has changed!!). After all the nosey-ing around was done, we went back to the lobby area to have a drink. There was a live band playing and we sat down to listen with our champagne in hand. I then commented to Mark something about ‘wouldn’t it be nice if they played/sang Lucas’ song (Can’t Cry Hard Enough) and/ or Chloe’s song (Love Me)’… then we laughed off how impossible it’d be for them to pick those 2 songs to sing out of all the songs in the world. Moreover, I am sure they would want to sing light-hearted, cheery songs, not songs about death/ separation.
After singing 2 or 3 songs, I then heard the familiar tune of ‘Can’t Cry Hard Enough’… Yes, they were singing my little boy’s song!!! Mark even recorded it on his video-cam (it is the very same one that he bought because he wanted to use it to record Chloe’s birth) and I cried through the entire song… and I was in awe, incredulous and astonished by the sheer coincidence.
After that song ended, we went to make dinner reservations at the Japanese restaurant just off the lobby. Once we have confirmed the reservation and were going to walk back to our cabin, my heart almost stopped because there it was… the familiar strains to Chloe’s song, ‘Love Me’. Mark and I stared at each other, totally stunned and not sure what to say. He recorded it on the video-cam again while I literally clung onto him for support and wept through the entire song (again). If there was anyone watching me, I am sure they think my screws are loose...
I mean what are the chances of something like this happening?? If it was only 1 song, I could say that it was ‘sheer coincidence’, but they sang BOTH my songs!! Out of all the songs they could have sung, they chose my babies’ songs… and they sang it during the exact period that we were there so that we wouldn’t miss it. I am not sure if this was a response to the ‘sign’ that we asked for… but Mark told me that it was a sign that our babies were right there with us on that day, at that moment, on that boat.
Encounter 2
I had been complaining to Mark about the lack/ loss of ‘sparks’ in our relationship. Everything feels like a routine and we are taking each other for granted, he does not make my heart palpitate anymore, there is no element of surprise/novelty… the list goes on. I hope I am just going through a phase… I feel sorry for that poor man sometimes, but I can’t help feeling that way.
So after dinner one Saturday night in September, he decided to do something out of the norm and took me to Mt Faber for drinks. It’s not something that we have done before and I liked the place… it was a cool, breezy night with a beautiful full moon and there was a live band too.
Again, I asked Mark what would be the chances that they’d sing Lucas and/ or Chloe’s songs and he replied that it’d be unlikely and moreover, the songs that they were sang were quite jazzy…
Someone in the restaurant then made a song request and would you believe me if I said it was Chloe’s song - ‘Love Me’?? I was flabbergasted… Mark was too. Again, I cried through the whole song and Mark’s eyes were red too. Thankfully we sat outdoors and it was pretty dark so no one saw us. I honestly, really, genuinely, truly felt that my Chloe was there and that’s her sign to let us know.
That was the ONLY song request that was made that night… sometimes it’s hard to believe in ‘sheer coincidence’ anymore. I am really beginning to believe that there are ‘higher forces’ out there.
** And to my Guardian Angel/ Angels if you are reading this, please love and protect my Lucas and Chloe until I reunited with them. Oh and if it's not too much to ask, I'd like to have a live, healthy baby for my next pregnancy cos I already have 2 Angels.

STILL - Gerrit Hofsink
When I first heard this song, I thought to myself that it MUST be written by someone who had gone through the pain of a miscarriage/ infant loss, this is because he described all the emotions so simply, yet so well. After some research, the song writer (Gerrit Hofsink) wrote this song for his daughter and son-in-law, who lost their firstborn after a 9 month pregnancy. This baby was the song writer's first grandchild.
This video is the only version I found on Youtube, which is a moving tribute made by a mom for her baby boy whom miscarried at 16 weeks. It's a very touching and I REALLY wish I have the skills and knowledge to do something like this for Lucas and Chloe too. Perhaps one day I will, with Mark's help.
Everytime I listen to this song, the tears never fail to fall and my heart starts to ache. But somehow I am hopelessly addicted to it because I can relate to it... and I hope that if my 2 Angels are around me, they would have heard it too, and know that the day when God takes me away, I'll be coming home to them.
I am listening to the song now as I type out this post and the tears are falling.
** Lucas/ Chloe, Please listen to this song and remember the lyrics. It's what mummy wants you to know...
STILL
music & lyrics: Gerrit Hofsink
I’ve been waiting for you
For such a long time
You’re always on my mind
And I’m lying awake
Most of the night
Waiting to hold you tight
Now that I do
And look at you
My heart is breaking
This can’t be true
Chorus:
Lost you before I found you
Gone before you came
But I love you just the same
Missed you before I met you
On earth we never can
But in heaven we’ll meet again
Close to my soul
Close to my heart
Right from the start
Lost in time
Lost in space
Can’t wait to see your face
Now that I do
And look at you
My heart is breaking
I know it’s true
Chorus:
Lost you before I found you
Gone before you came
But I love you just the same
Missed you before I met you
On earth we never can
But in heaven we’ll meet again
Sometimes I find myself wondering what to do
With this pain that I’m going through
But I know one day, God will take me away
And I’m coming home to you
And when I do
And look at you
My heart is healing
I know it’s true
Chorus:
Lost you before I found you
Gone before you came
But I love you just the same
Missed you before I met you
On earth we never can
But in heaven we’ll meet again

Countdown to Chloe's EDD --- 3 days to go
You may think I am losing my mind, and maybe you are right, I am losing most of my sanity. The life coach whom I met with once a number of weeks back had been sending me emails periodically just to check on how I am and how I was feeling. I am quite touched actually cos he is doing all these for free. I received an email from him last week, asking for my permission for him to 'connect' with the souls of Lucas and Chloe.
I didn't see any harm in it, and in fact, I was quite intrigued and interested on what he'd uncover, so I agreed. Here's what he came back to me with:
Connected on: 5th Oct 2009.
Time: 11.28 p.m. to 12.08 a.m.
What transpired: They are still earth bound - meaning they are still with you due to your missing them. They are ok and that you need not worry about them. They love you as much as you and your husband love them. They ask you to be patient and to take care of yourself. In the past, I have tried to connect/ feel their presence myself, but somehow I have never succeeded. Honestly, I don't even dream of them. Was it because I was trying too hard? I think the only time I feel 'close' to them is when I am swimming. When I am underwater, where it is all still and quiet, I quite often catch shadows/ movements on both my sides and feel a presence, especially at times when I have the whole pool to myself. It is not the spooky kind of presence, but something that is calming and soothing. Of course when I turn to look, there's nothing there beside me... only a vast nothingness.

My Babies, My Teachers
I met a business associate for lunch yesterday. I have known him and his wife for some years but have not met him in quite a while. Midway through lunch, he asked me whether I planned to expand my family. It caught me unaware and I wondered if I should just fob him off with a 'Yeah, soon...' or tell him the truth.
It was an easy decision actually. I am not ashamed of my miscarriages and I am certainly not ashamed of my babies. In fact, I am proud of them... for the brave fight both of them put up for trying to come into this world and to be part of our family. So I told him all about my Lucas and Chloe, and the damn thrombophilia. He's got young children himself, and as I was sharing my heartache and pain with him, I also reminded him to treasure his 'gifts', for they are all blessings.
I think it's just human nature that you never realise how much something means to you until it's gone, and you never know how much you love someone until you've lost them. But why is it that it takes a loss for us to learn how to treasure? I only wish I had properly treasured every moment I had with Lucas and Chloe.
* Lucas, I only had you for such a short period time... 14 weeks is not enough. In fact, a lifetime won't even suffice. I wish we had more time together, but those 14 weeks were magical. You gave me the delights and excitement of being a first-time mom, you taught me how to love unconditionally, you opened up my eyes on what a fabulous daddy that Mark will be, and you made me realise how much I want to be a mom. You brought so much joy into our lives during that 14 short weeks, but most importantly, you made me realise just how much your daddy loves me and how strong he can be.
* Chloe, I had the honour of spending 24 weeks with you, feel you moving inside me, holding you in my arms, and kissing your tiny body. It is a humbling experience. I learnt so much from you, like I did from Lucas. You gave me hope when life was bleak. When I thought my heart could never accommodate another baby, you made me understand how love has no boundaries. I did not have to 'divide' my love into 2 when you came along.. my heart simply grew to accommodate you. You gave me the joy of watching you suckle on your thumb through the ultrasound scan, and you made me learn and accept that I am only a 'mere human' who needs help from others during my weakest moment.
My babies may have been here for only a very short time, but in this very short time, they have both taught and given me so much... these are things that I'd never have learnt/ experienced without them. However, there is just one thing that I wish they didn't make me learn - it is the feeling of heartache.. The tears and pain of a bereaved mother.

Home Alone --- Day 3
To my precious babies - Lucas & Chloe,
Take with you all the love you can carry, but please leave enough behind for me to feel your presence; for I will need that love to find my way through the darkness. For the light that was your soul had left me. Missing you so dearly,
*********************************************
I have had 2 'good' days in a row - yesterday and Monday... I thought things would slowly improve and I will have lesser of the 'down' time. But this morning, I woke up feeling lousy and knowing that getting through the day would be an uphill struggle. I am kind of glad I will have to leave the house later in the afternoon to go back to the office for a meeting. I am scared of being alone with my thoughts.
I went swimming last evening and while I was reading my book by the poolside, a heavily pregnant lady came and occupied the deck chair next to mine. Suddenly I felt short of breath and I tried to avert my gaze from her pregnant form. If I had not lost Chloe, my belly would have been like hers... If I was still pregnant, I would have started a conversation with her about our babies and I'd have made a new friend in the condominium. Chloe would have a new little friend too... This week would have been Chloe's 35th week. If my water bag had broken now rather than at 24weeks, it wouldn't matter cos it would be 'safe'.
Thinking about this brought a lump in my throat and tears to my eyes.. It's a good thing I was still wet from swimming so water disguised my tears. Oh God, do you know how much I miss my babies? Why did you have to take them away from me?

Treasure Chests -- Part I
Finally bought all the necessary things that I need to create my 'Lucas's Treasure Chest' and 'Chloe's Treasure Chest'.
After I lost Lucas last year, I put all his things into a little rattan basket... the things include the positive home pregnancy kit, a pair of blue mittens that a friend gave me to drop 'hints' to Mark before he found out I was pregnant, photos of all the scans taken of him, bills and medical records, cards that I received after I lost him, a poem, etc... So now, I want to do the same for Chloe too, and I decided to let them have 'matching' boxes (or 'Treasure Chest' as I'd rather call it cos it sounds more precious/ important than 'box'), other than the fact that the decoration on Lucas's Treasure Chest will be boyish blue and Chloe's will be a girly pink.
I hope I can find the strength and courage to gather Chloe's things and put them into the Treasure Chest because it's like opening up a wound that's barely been healed. When I found out I was pregnant with Chloe, I took close to 8-10 home pregnancy tests over a period of 1 week because I could not believe the results... so bringing out those kits will bring back a lot of memories.. and I also have pictures of the scans which were taken at 12 weeks and 20 weeks... of course there are also pieces of the clothings that I bought for her (other than the 5 pieces that were creamated along with her, there are still a couple of others still hanging in the wardrobe)... oh and I also got her some pretty, pink bibs so it'd go into the treasure chest as well... and lastly of course are the medical records and bills, as well as the cards that I received after we lost her.
Please let me find the courage to do this...

The Story of my 2 Angels
I have a medical condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which would make it hard for me to conceive naturally without any medical intervention. I never knew I had this condition, even though I lived with some the symptoms for half my life.. i.e. irregular/ infrequent periods that are usually heavy, hight cholestrol and weight gain. There is a host of other symptoms in addition to what I have, like acne, excessive hair growth, oily skin, obesity, etc, and I am pretty fortunate that I don't have them.
I only found out that I have this condition only after I lost little Lucas, my little miracle baby.
I say he is my miracle baby because somehow he was conceived naturally even though I have PCOS and should have been 'infertile' and unlikely to conceive without medical help.
On 07 Apr 2008, exactly one month after my 10th year anniversary with my husband, I went to see the doctor as I had a discomfort in my lower abdomen. The doctor did some routine checks and a scan showed that it was a cyst. It was fairly harmless and should go away, but at the same time, the doctor also noticed that I 'appeared' to be pregnant.
After a more thorough check, it was confirmed. This came a surprise because we have been trying for a while to have a baby. Preliminary tests indicated that I was about 4 weeks along, meaning that this baby was conceived on the day of our 10th year anniversary (yes, I know this for sure!!). What could be more special and meaningful, right? It is the perfect present for both of us.
With the help of some close friends, we planned a small surprise and broke the news to my hubby immediately after he arrived back in Singapore after a business trip. The word ‘shocked’ does not fully describe his reaction then and he kept asking me to swear that we were not pulling his leg. Hubby and I were ecstatic about the impending arrival of this new life, so were our family and friends. Along the way, I had some spotting and went back to the doctor’s several times for progesterone shots to 'boost' the pregnancy/ prevent miscarriage.
Meanwhile, all my scans showed that our baby was developing beautifully and the test results were very good. Other than feeling a little nauseated during the 5th to 8th week, I was beginning to enjoy the feeling of having a little life growing inside me… and also enjoying the undivided attention from my hubby despite it being Euro 2008!
I had some of the typical pregnancy symptoms, i.e. having sore (but HUGE) boobs, feeling bloated, waking up 2 to 3 times a night to go to the toilet, my face was starting to break out with acne, etc. What I loved most was that I noticed my clothes were gradually getting tight, it’s a sign that the little life is growing! I also loved it when hubby put his head on my growing belly to talk to our baby. Ever since hubby accompanied me to my first scan and saw a fuzzy scan of the baby, he was already convinced that it was going to be a boy. Deep down, I had a gut feeling that it was a boy too… we can call it Mother’s instinct! But whenever hubby referred to the baby as ‘he’ / ‘him’, I enjoyed teasing him by saying that I felt it was a girl and it’d spark off a lively round of ‘debate’.
Just as we were going to bed on the night of Father's Day 2008, I had a sudden gush of blood and we immediately went to the hospital. The doctor did some checks and said that it was probably due to the fact that my placenta was a bit low. Anyway, the important thing is that the baby’s fine and I saw from the scan that he was happily punching and kicking in the waterbag. I was given another progesterone shot and sent home with a week’s leave from work. At home that night, hubby even said that it was baby’s way of wishing him Happy Father’s Day.
To be on the safe side, we went to see my regular doctor first thing the next morning. During the routine check, she found out that somehow my waterbag had burst and some of the amniotic fluid had already leaked and there’s no chance of the baby surviving without the waterbag at this early stage of 14 weeks. We had to terminate the pregnancy soon as it may lead to an infection for me. We did a scan and although the waterbag appeared a lot smaller, baby's heart was still beating strongly and baby was moving around, although much lesser this time cos he’s got lesser space. At that time, both hubby and I were too shocked to cry or even react to what the doctor told us. It was too sudden… too unexpected.
That night was the longest night in my life. I cried till I don’t think I had anymore tears left and hubby cried alongside with me for the baby that we so badly wanted but could never hold. My heart broke into a million pieces and I don’t think it’ll ever mend. We kept telling baby how sorry we were and how much we loved him. I really did not want to keep referring to the baby as ‘it’ (we still didn't know the gender then), so hubby and I decided that if the baby’s a girl, we’d name her ‘Chloe’ and if it’s a boy, he’d be called ‘Lucas’.
We told the doctor that we wanted to know the baby’s gender because at 14 weeks, it’s already formed although we weren’t able to tell from the earlier scans. Hubby’s right.. our baby's a boy. The doctor asked if we wanted to see him and we agreed because I was afraid I’d regret forever if I didn’t even get to see my precious baby Lucas. He was tiny… at just 10 cm, he was slightly bigger than the size of my palm. However, he was already perfectly formed… we could see his teeny-weeny fingers and toes. What broke my heart further was how peaceful he looked. He was cuddled up and looked like he was sound asleep. The doctor checked him and said that our Lucas was perfectly fine and would continue to develop if it weren’t for the waterbag. Hearing this made me feel even worse cos I felt that as a mother, I failed my duty to protect my baby. MY failure had led to the demise of my baby…
That evening, I had to go through a short surgery (D&C) to ‘clean-up’ my womb. They will put me under a GA during the procedure and as I was waiting for my turn at the Operating Theatre, I thought about many things during that 30min. Honestly I wouldn’t mind if I did not wake up from the GA… at least I have my baby waiting for me on the other side and he wouldn’t be so alone.
It’s been more than a year since I lost my baby boy… and not a second goes by where I don’t think of him and of the times which we COULD have spent together... Sadly, I don't have any pics of him cos it happened so suddenly and we were so unprepared.
Family and friends have rallied around us during this period, this we’ll forever be grateful for. Many people have also told us that ‘it’s ok, you can try again’, it is said with no ill-intent of course, but honestly, it really is NOT ok… no one will ever be able to replace Lucas in my heart and when they took him away, they also took away a big piece of my heart.
During my stay in the hospital, my sweet hubby went to the nearby Tiffany shop and bought each of us a ‘dog tag’ cos of what it symbolizes and wearing it enables us to keep baby Lucas close to his mummy and daddy’s hearts always. I wore it daily and only took it off when I was warded in Jun 09. The words on the tag are:
Lucas Lee
I started seeing the fertility doctor sometime in early Sep 08 and he confirmed that I have PCOS. He 'recommended' that I have at least a 3 month 'break' before we started trying again. We started the fertility treatments in Oct 08 and we started off with the 'basic' treatments first, i.e. oral medication and injections on my tummy to boost the size and quantity of egg production.
Chloe - My little Princess
6 months passed rather uneventfully as we slowly and cautiously started sharing the good news with family and friends. I enjoyed putting on the extra weight, not fitting into my 'normal' clothes, and even secretly enjoyed the typical pregnancy symptoms... i.e. calf cramps in the middle of the night, frequent visits to the toilet, water retention in my fingers, stretch marks on my belly, etc.
At around 5.45am on 24 Jun while I was still asleep, I felt a gush of water that jolted me awake. I knew immediately what it was... my water bag broke AGAIN. I also knew immediately that it meant bad news because I was only 24 weeks along then. Hubby and I sobbed all the way to the hospital because deep inside we already knew what the outcome would be. The doctors were very frank and told us in no uncertain terms that the chances of our baby making through it at 24 weeks is very bleak. Even if she survived, she'd most likely have:
and the list went on... I guess I just 'switched off' at some stage.... it was just too heartbreaking. I knew we did not have a choice then... hubby and I have discussed this issue previously even before we got pregnant. We know clearly that we'd want our baby to have quality of life and the last thing we'd want is to bring her into this world to suffer. I guess this is a controversial issue.. some people may think that it's too selfish on our part to rob her of the chance to live. However, as her mom, I felt that it'd too unfair for our princess if she was not able to have a quality life... she's my baby, she deserves better... no correction... she deserves only the best.
I had big hopes for her... all the dashed hopes that I had for her brother Lucas were now pinned on this baby. I wanted to bring her up exactly the same way I was brought up because I had the happiest childhood, went to good schools, had decent grades, had the opportunity to go to university abroad, have a close-knit family plus extended family (including my in-laws) who doted on me, a good job with a pay that I cannot complaint about, friends whom I know I can count on anytime, a wonderful relationship with my hubby whom I love dearly, a beautiful home, an anti-social grouchy 10 year old dog (Huskee) and a crazy, destructive 1 year old pup (Hershey). I wanted her to have all these and more... I wanted to give her nothing but the best.
The only hope then was that I do not get an infection and somehow will be able to keep her in me for as long a possible so that her tiny little lungs have the chance to grow properly. That's when we were hoping for a miracle. That night when I had difficulty falling asleep, I put my hands on my now slightly deflated tummy and told Chloe that if she's tired of fighting or if she is in pain and wanted to give up fighting, I'd totally understand. The next day her daddy also gave her the same message... much as we loved and wanted her, we don't want her to be suffering because of our own selfishness.
In the end, our sweet princess made the decision for us. I started running a fever, my white blood cell count have more than doubled and began to get minor contractions at 5am on 26 Jun 09. It's a sure sign that I have got an infection. I was pushed to the delivery suite at around 11am and she arrived at 1416hrs after 3-4 long pushes. Hubby was with me throughout those painful hours and held my hands through it all. This is the second time we are going through the whole labour process knowing fully well that we'd not be going out of the delivery suite with a brawling, healthy infant.
They cleaned her up and placed her on my chest, and we were allowed to spend some precious time with her privately. Although she did not cry like other babies, she was still alive, I could see her heart still pounding against her tiny chest... We counted her tiny fingers and toes, joked through our tears that she's got big feet like her daddy, noted that while she had most of hubby's features although her lips are definitely mine, her hair is just begining to grow...She is about the length from my the tip of my fingers to my elbow and she looked so fragile and innocent... She is my sleeping angel. We kissed her gently and although she did not open her eyes to look at us, I really hope she knew that those kisses were from her mommy and daddy, who love her beyond words.
The too short time that we spent with her is something that I'd be eternally grateful for because it somehow proved that the past 24 weeks were not a dream, I did have a baby and she is perfect, only that she was too eager to see the world.. impatient just like her brother.. I guess it's a trait they inherited from me cos patience is definitely not one of my virtues!
That night was so tough... I felt so empty, so helpless, so guilty, so lost, so betrayed, so robbed, so heartbroken.. As I was in the maternity ward, I kept hearing babies crying and the nurses pushing the babies to their moms for feeding every 2 hours. It broke my heart so much because while those lucky babies were warm and had their moms to feed and care for them, my little Chloe was lying alone and cold in the mortuary.
I am still searching for a reason why this happene to me TWICE... I am not religious, but somehow I think I must have done something really bad, or I must have been a really evil person to deserve this punishment.
I miss my two angels... and I miss them both so much and I love them even more... I'd do anything to be with them... They are an extension of the love that hubby and I share. I feel so guilty that I have failed so miserably yet again...
- I failed as a woman because I can't even properly carry a baby to term.
- I failed as a mom because I could not even protect my own babies.
- I failed as a wife because I cannot even give my husband a baby.
- I failed as a daughter/ daughter-in-law because I cannot give my parents/ in-laws a grandchild.
- I failed as a friend because I cannot give my best friend her god-child.
In the span of one year, I was brought to my knees twice. Before I can even learn how to stand up and walk properly again after the first time, I have been brought back to my knees yet again. This time, I am just simply too tired to even try and stand up.
30 Jun 09 is without doubt the most heart-wrenching time in my entire 32 years of life. It feels so so so wrong for a parent to have to go through this...for a parent to make arrangements for the cremation of his/ her baby... for a parent to see his/ her baby lying lifelessly in a coffin... However, this is something that I felt that hubby and I must go through... i.e. to send our princess on her final journey in her too short time on earth. That's the least we can do for her.
We went shopping for some last minute stuff that I wanted to include in her coffin.. we had previously bought some clothes for her, but I wanted her to have more... it's never enough anyway. It felt so surreal being in the baby department buying mittens, booties, milk bottles and pacifier for all the wrong reasons. I also ended up getting some pretty pink roses for her.
The message says:
To our Darling Daughter CHLOE LEE
Between Now and Then
Till We See You Again
We'll Be Loving You
Daddy and Mummy
June 2009
Chloe's first (and only) toy... a fluffy pink rattle doggie that says 'My First Puppy'.
All of my Princess' possessions...
Somehow we managed to get through the day still sane and in one piece... The image of our tiny sleeping princess in her little white coffin is something that I will remember for life. Before they closed the coffin, I told Chloe to go and look for her big brother Lucas, who will look out for her and take good care of her. I also told her pass a message to Lucas, to let him know that we have not forgotten about him and are still loving and missing him dearly. Lastly, I told her that I was sorry I could not protect her and that I loved her more than she'd ever know.
Chloe's ashes were scattered into the sea. I have been told that this is the closure that I need, but to me, it's just the begining of the long and bumpy road ahead.
One day a child was born, too early, too small but loved as much as any child could be.
As the parents of this child entered this journey they found themselves feeling alone.
They had the joys of being new parents but the fear of losing their child, the thrill of giving birth, the grief of a lost dream.
This was supposed to be a joyous time, not a time filled with grief, anger and pain.
